Janu Basti is a localized Ayurvedic treatment focused on the knee joints, designed to nourish, strengthen, and relieve pain in the knees. In Ayurveda, the knees are considered a major Vata site for joint disorders. Keeping them warm, lubricated, and nourished helps to pacify aggravated Vata dosha, which is responsible for stiffness (arthritis), pain (overuse), and degeneration. The therapy involves creating a dam of dough, placed around the knees and filling it with warm herbal oil. The oil is retained for up to 40 minutes, replacing as needed.
Precautions: Not recommended during pregnancy, menstruation, with fever, or for those with acute injuries, severe swelling, or skin conditions in the treatment area.
